Melasma is most common in women 25 years of age or older. The rate of melasma in women during pregnancy and postpartum melasma is relatively standard. Men are less likely to get melasma than women. Melasma is closely related to geography, race, and skin color. Asians and people of color have a higher rate of melasma than white people.
